The real minimum for a private boat in Komodo: what changes between 2, 4 and 6 guests

A private charter on Sea Familia 1 or Sea Familia 2 is priced per boat, not per person. That alone answers the question. Two guests don't get a smaller boat or a cheaper band; they get all six cabins and pay the band their party falls into.

KEXI sets no minimum party size for a private charter. Between 2, 4 and 6 guests, the only thing that changes is the number you divide the boat by. For 3 days and 2 nights, two guests on Sea Familia 1 work out at IDR 48,550,000 (≈ USD 2,979) each. On Sea Familia 2 the same two guests work out at IDR 57,200,000 (≈ USD 3,509) each.

Sea Familia 1 has 6 cabins and takes up to 12 guests, 13 with the extra bed in Manta Cabin I. Sea Familia 2 has 6 cabins and takes up to 14 guests. Two of you sleep in one cabin and leave five empty. That's the real cost of a boat that belongs to your people alone, and it's why the per-person figure for two looks steep.

Take a 3-day, 2-night private charter at 2026 rates. Sea Familia 1 costs IDR 97,100,000 (≈ USD 5,957) for one to eight guests. Sea Familia 2 costs IDR 114,400,000 (≈ USD 7,018) for one to ten guests. Within a band the total stays put, so each extra guest brings everyone's share down while the boat costs the same.

• 2 guests: IDR 48,550,000 (≈ USD 2,979) each on Sea Familia 1, IDR 57,200,000 (≈ USD 3,509) each on Sea Familia 2.
• 4 guests: IDR 24,280,000 (≈ USD 1,490) each on Sea Familia 1, IDR 28,600,000 (≈ USD 1,755) each on Sea Familia 2.
• 6 guests: IDR 16,180,000 (≈ USD 993) each on Sea Familia 1, IDR 19,070,000 (≈ USD 1,170) each on Sea Familia 2.

On both boats, going from 2 guests to 4 halves each share, and going from 4 to 6 takes off about a third. Beyond that the savings shrink.

At every party size from 2 to 12, the published Sea Familia 1 rate is the lower whole-boat rate. Sea Familia 2 is the longer boat, 36.35 m against 25 m, and the only one that takes 13 or 14 guests. For six or fewer, the extra length buys you room, not a lower price. Watch the band edge as well. On Sea Familia 1 a ninth guest moves the boat to the IDR 102,700,000 (≈ USD 6,301) band. On Sea Familia 2 the first band runs to ten.

If a whole boat is more than you need, an open trip sells you a cabin instead. Sea Familia 1 starts on Mondays and Fridays, and Sea Familia 2 on Fridays. Every open trip is 3 days and 2 nights. The next sailing on the calendar is Friday, 6 November 2026.

Fares are per person, 3 days and 2 nights, guide and documentation included:

• Sea Familia 1, Turtle cabins on the upper deck: IDR 5,850,000 (≈ USD 359).
• Sea Familia 1, Manta cabins on the main deck: IDR 6,850,000 (≈ USD 420).
• Sea Familia 2, Family cabin: IDR 8,000,000 (≈ USD 491). Deluxe cabin: IDR 10,000,000 (≈ USD 613). Master cabin: IDR 12,500,000 (≈ USD 767).

A seat differs from a private charter in two ways. You share the boat with other guests, so you share the dates and the route too, and the guide and the documentation come with the seat. We don't sell a seat as a saving, because it's a different thing: you give up the boat and keep the cabin.

The same exclusions apply to a party of two and a party of twelve. On a private charter the guide and the photo and video documentation are not included; both are available on request and quoted separately.

Komodo National Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of the fare. The entry ticket is IDR 250,000 per person for a foreign visitor, IDR 50,000 for an Indonesian citizen on a weekday and IDR 75,000 at the weekend, and ranger fees are separate. The Park fees page has the detail.

A fuel surcharge applies while marine fuel prices are high; it is paid separately and the current amount is confirmed in your written quote. Prices exclude 1.1% tax.

Snorkel gear differs by boat. Sea Familia 1 provides a snorkel mask and snorkel for guests. Snorkel gear for Sea Familia 2 is confirmed in your written quote. Both are snorkel boats. Diving can be arranged with a separate dive operator on request. Mantas and turtles are often seen in season on this coast, and never promised.

For two, the open trip costs less and the private charter is the quieter few days. It comes down to whether strangers at the lunch table, sharing the same sunset, are a pleasure or a price to you. Plenty of couples go either way.

Four is two couples, and here a private charter starts to make sense. Each couple has a cabin, and the share has halved. Nobody else sets the order of the stops, though the captain still decides on the day, by weather and tide. Six is a family of five with a grandparent, say, or three couples. At six the Sea Familia 1 share of IDR 16,180,000 (≈ USD 993) sits well below the two-guest figure.

Skipper's tip Get the band edge in writing. A party of 8 on Sea Familia 1, or 10 on Sea Familia 2, sits right on it. One more name changes the whole total, and the quote should say so before you pay the deposit.
