Kelor: a short hill, then the water
Updated 28 October 2026
Kelor is a short, steep hill of 15 to 30 minutes with a viewpoint over the bay, and the first stop of the listed Sea Familia 1 route. It is about an hour by boat from Labuan Bajo. PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia books your boat.
Kelor's hill, minute by minute
Kelor is a small hilly island, roughly an hour by boat from Labuan Bajo. A short path climbs to a viewpoint over the bay in 15 to 30 minutes. The path is steep and dry, and the difficulty is moderate.
Sturdy shoes help. Kelor is short, steep and not a long trek. It is not a dragon site either. The dragons are on Komodo, and Kelor is the warm-up.
The listed Sea Familia 1 route makes Kelor the first stop after Labuan Bajo. The captain decides the order on the day, and the stop is short enough to fit before lunch.

Why the route starts at Kelor
Distance explains it. Kelor is the nearest of the stops on the route, and the leg from the harbour takes 50 to 70 minutes. That makes it the natural first stop of the trip.
A first stop works as a warm-up for the legs and a first look at the bay. After Kelor the listed route goes to Manjarite for the first snorkel, then to Kalong for dusk. Nothing else on day 1 asks for much effort. That is by design.
Sea Familia 1 has a set route and Sea Familia 2 does not. The route on Sea Familia 2 is agreed with you in writing before you pay.

Toddlers and grandparents on the hill
The hill is short but steep. A toddler rides on a parent or waits aboard, and a grandparent who prefers a flat deck can do the same. The viewpoint is a bonus, not the point of the day.
The climb is dry and the path is loose in places, so closed shoes matter more than speed. Take it slowly. The view over the bay waits for the slowest walker.
Skipper's tip Take water up the hill, and leave the camera strap short so both hands are free for the steep part.
Kelor is a hill, not a reef
Kelor is not a snorkel stop, so no swim is planned here. Manjarite is the first snorkel stop after Kelor on the listed route.
Kelor is not a beach day and not a place to see dragons. It is the first hill of the trip, and a good one to start with. A party that wants a long day of swimming reads the Pink Beach page, and a party that wants a long walk reads the Komodo page.
