Pink Beach: the first snorkel for a child

Updated 28 October 2026

Pink Beach is a snorkel stop of 45 to 90 minutes, 1 to 8 m deep, with a mild current and reef close to the shore. It is the gentlest named stop for a child's first snorkel. A parent in the water helps. PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia books the boat.

Depth, current and time

Pink Beach is a snorkel stop of 45 to 90 minutes in water 1 to 8 m deep, with a mild current. The reef sits close to the shore, so a child can swim near the beach and a strong swimmer can go further. It is the gentlest of the named snorkel stops.

Mornings bring the calmer water and softer light. Pink Beach is busiest in July and August. The captain sets the time, and the listed Sea Familia 1 route puts it on the morning of day 2.

For a first snorkel with a child, this is the stop we point to first. The step-by-step guide starts here.

What it is not: colour depends on light and tide: the sand is pale pink, not bright pink

Under the hull: what a first-timer sees

Reef close to the shore, shallow enough that the sand is still in view below you, and a current you hardly notice. That is the feel of the place for a first-timer. The depth never passes 8 m.

The colour is mostly above the water. The sand takes its pale pink from fragments of red coral mixed into it. How pink depends on light and tide: pale, not bright.

On this stop, a calm morning is the reason to go.

Sand, shade and sunscreen

Wear reef-safe sunscreen and put it on before you reach the beach, so it is not washing off into the water. Bring a hat and a long-sleeved top if your child burns easily. Plan for sun on the sand.

Sea Familia 1 provides a mask and snorkel; fins are not provided. Snorkel gear for Sea Familia 2 is confirmed in your written quote.

Pack towels, water and a dry change for the way back to the boat, and keep the day bag light.

Quiet hours

The captain decides when the boat arrives, and the order of stops changes with traffic, weather and tides. A private charter can ask for the early slot, when the water is calmer. That is a request, not a promise.

If quiet matters to your party, say so when you book. We put the request in the written quote, and the captain decides on the day. The month guide shows which months are quietest: January to March and November.

Pink Beach is the first named stop for a child's first snorkel, and the snorkel-first page puts it in order with the others.

FAQ

Is Pink Beach calm enough for a six-year-old?

The current is mild and the depth is 1 to 8 m, which makes it the gentlest named snorkel stop. A six-year-old does best with a parent in the water, a mask fitted on deck and a life jacket, which is on board. The crew decides in the water.

How long do we stay?

Between 45 and 90 minutes. The captain sets the time from traffic, weather and tides, and a private party can ask to stay longer or shorter. Sand and shallow water suit children who tire of the mask, so the long stop suits a mixed party well.

Is there shade?

Plan for sun on the sand. Bring a hat and reef-safe sunscreen, and ask the crew about a shaded spot when you land. Sea Familia 1 has a sundeck and an upper-deck dining saloon to retreat to.

Can a toddler play in the shallows?

Yes, with a parent within arm's reach. The current is mild and the depth near the reef is 1 to 8 m. Keep a parent within reach, ask the crew about the water at the edge, and see our page on babies and toddlers.
