A Komodo boat trip with a baby or toddler: what we know, what we ask

Updated 28 October 2026

Children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian; from 3 the full fare applies. The whole of Sea Familia 1 costs IDR 97,100,000 (≈ USD 5,957) for 3 days and 2 nights for any party of 1 to 8. Confirm in writing how a child under 3 is listed on your quote.

The fare rule, and what to ask before you pay

The one child rule we publish is a fare rule. Children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian; from 3 the full fare applies. Confirm in writing how a child under 3 is listed on your quote.

Then the list of what is not promised on either boat: a cot or travel cot, baby food or milk storage, a child seat or harness, life jacket sizes, and any medical cover beyond basic first aid. Each item is a question to ask before you pay, not a thing to assume.

Nothing on this page is medical advice. Whether a baby or toddler travels by boat is a decision for you and your doctor. The written answer you get is the one to rely on.

Who sleeps where with a baby

Sea Familia 1's Manta Cabin I has a queen-size bed and an extra bed, sleeping 2 to 3, and it is on the main deck. Two adults and a toddler fit that cabin on paper. Whether the extra bed suits a child under 3 is a question for your written quote.

Sea Familia 2's Master cabins sit on the main deck with a double bed and an extra bed. Its Family cabin is on the lower deck, with a queen bed and a bunk. We do not say that a bunk suits a very small child. Ask in writing which bed arrangement is possible for your child.

Every cabin on both boats has air conditioning and a private bathroom. Compare the cabins on the cabin pages before you choose.

A three-day sample at toddler pace

This sample is built from park timings and the listed Sea Familia 1 route. It is a plan, not a promise. No ranger walk is planned for toddlers, and the captain sets the order on the day.

Day 1. Kelor is short at 15 to 30 minutes, but the hill is steep, so a toddler rides on a parent or waits aboard. Manjarite is a snorkel stop. At dusk the bats leave Kalong, and you watch from the deck.

Day 2. Pink Beach has sand and shallow water, 1 to 8 m, with a mild current. Padar and the Komodo walk are for the adults who want them; the rest of the party can stay aboard. Manta Point is not for a toddler.

Day 3. Kanawa is shallow, 1 to 6 m. Then the run back to Labuan Bajo. Sea Familia 2 stops are agreed in writing.

Skipper's tip Tell us your child's nap times when you book. The captain sets the order of stops on the day, so we cannot fix them, but we pass the request on in writing where conditions allow.

Before you book: five questions we answer in writing

Send these five with your dates, and keep the answers.

  • How is a child under 3 listed on the quote?
  • Which cabin bed does the child use?
  • Which life jacket sizes are on board?
  • Can a cot or travel cot be set up in the cabin?
  • What can the kitchen do for a baby's milk or food?

Prices for a whole boat follow party size. The whole of Sea Familia 1 costs IDR 97,100,000 (≈ USD 5,957) for 3 days and 2 nights for any party of 1 to 8, at 2026 rates. See the private charter page and the family page for the rest.

FAQ

Is there a minimum age for the boat?

Whether a very young child comes along is your decision and your doctor's. For the fare, children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian, and from 3 the full fare applies. Ask us the five questions above.

Can we bring a cot?

A cot is not promised on either boat. Ask in writing before you pay whether one can be set up in the cabin you want, and what size of space the cabin offers. The answer in your written quote is the one that counts.

Is the water calm enough for a toddler?

The captain decides the route and the stops on the day from weather and tides, and conditions change by month. Pink Beach, at 1 to 8 m with a mild current, and Kanawa, at 1 to 6 m, are the gentler stops on the route. See the month guide before you fix a date.

Does a free child need a cabin bed?

A free place is a fare rule, not a bed rule. A child under 3 could share a parent's bed or use an extra bed such as the one in Manta Cabin I, but we confirm that in writing for your party. Tell us the child's age and the cabin you want.
