Sea Familia
A family on its own boat for three days
Updated 28 October 2026
A family of five on Sea Familia 1 pays IDR 97,100,000 (≈ USD 5,957) for the whole boat, IDR 19,420,000 (≈ USD 1,191) per person, for 3 days and 2 nights. Children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian. Guide, park tickets, fuel surcharge and tax are separate. PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia books it for you.
What a family should know before it books
Start with the limits, because the plan follows from them. Sea Familia 1 has 6 cabins and takes up to 12 guests, 13 with the extra bed in Manta Cabin I. Sea Familia 2 has 6 cabins and takes up to 14 guests.
Both boats include life jackets and basic first aid. Sea Familia 1 carries 25 life jackets, 4 ring buoys, 1 life raft for 25 persons, a smoke signal and a flare gun, plus a Garmin GPS and a marine radio. Tell us your children's sizes and we confirm the right jackets in writing before you pay.
Every walk in the park is led by a ranger, and Manta Point is a strong-current drift for confident swimmers. Nobody has to do either. Choose the stops that suit your smallest person; the captain sets the order on the day.
Who sleeps where: four, five, six
For a family of five on Sea Familia 1, the two adults and the youngest child take Manta Cabin I, whose queen-size bed and extra bed sleep 2 to 3. The other two children share the queen-size bed in Manta Cabin II next door.
Six of you fill three Manta cabins, two to a cabin. Manta IV and both Turtle cabins stay empty, and the price doesn't move, because six still pay the 1 to 8 band.
On Sea Familia 2 the Family cabin is on the lower deck, with a queen bed and a bunk for 2 to 4 guests. A family of five takes it, plus one Deluxe cabin with two single beds. Photos of the Deluxe and Family cabins are on request. The cabin page shows both boats side by side. Every cabin on both boats has air conditioning and a private bathroom.

Three days, paced for children (sample)
This is a sample, put together from park timings and the listed Sea Familia 1 route. Treat it as a plan, not a promise.
Day 1. Kelor first: a short, steep hill of 15 to 30 minutes and a view over the bay. Then a snorkel at Manjarite. At dusk the flying foxes stream out of Kalong while you watch from the deck.
Day 2. Padar is optional. The climb takes 25 to 45 minutes and you set off about 65 minutes before sunrise, so a child who needs the sleep can stay on board. Pink Beach is the first proper snorkel, 45 to 90 minutes in 1 to 8 m of water with a mild current. The Komodo walk with a ranger follows, 45 to 120 minutes.
Day 3. A shallow snorkel at Kanawa, 1 to 6 m deep, then the run back to Labuan Bajo. The captain sets the order on the day.
Skipper's tip Fit each child's mask on deck, strap snug and hair clear of the seal, and let them breathe through the snorkel for a minute before anyone gets in. The guide to a child's first snorkel goes step by step.

The small print for small people
Children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian; from 3 the full fare applies. Ask us to set out in writing how a free child appears on your quote.
Komodo National Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of the fare. An entry ticket is IDR 250,000 per person for international visitors; Indonesian citizens pay IDR 50,000 on weekdays and IDR 75,000 at weekends. The park fees page has the detail.
On a private charter the guide and the photo and video documentation are not included; both are available on request and quoted separately. A fuel surcharge applies while marine fuel prices are high; it is paid separately and the current amount is confirmed in your written quote. Prices exclude 1.1% tax.
FAQ
What age is right for the first Komodo boat trip?
Children under 3 travel free; from 3 the full fare applies. Go by temperament rather than age. Small children enjoy the short stops, the calm snorkel at Pink Beach and the boat itself; Padar and the long ranger walks are for older ones.
Can a six-year-old do the Komodo walk?
The ranger decides on the day. Walks run from 45 to 120 minutes, always with a ranger, and the shorter trails suit small legs. Closed shoes, water and a hat go in the day bag. Nobody has to walk. Staying on board with a tired child is your call, and the boat is yours for the whole trip.
Where do the children sleep on Sea Familia 1?
Manta Cabin I has a queen-size bed and an extra bed for 2 to 3 guests, which suits two adults and one child. Manta Cabins II to IV each have a queen-size bed for 2, so two children can share one. Turtle Cabins I and II, on the upper deck, have a queen-size bed too. All six have a private bathroom.
Do we pay for a two-year-old?
No. Children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian, and from 3 the full fare applies. A free place is a fare rule, not a bed promise, so confirm in writing how a child under 3 is listed on your quote and which cabin bed the child uses.
