A Komodo trip with teenagers by boat: walks, water, a door of their own

A family of five with two teenagers pays IDR 19,420,000 (≈ USD 1,191) per person on Sea Familia 1 for 3 days and 2 nights, whole boat. From age 3 the full fare applies, so teenagers pay the full fare. The route holds three walks and five snorkel stops. Guide, park tickets, fuel surcharge and tax are separate.
What a teenager can do and what the rangers decide
Three walks sit on the route. Kelor is a short, steep hill of 15 to 30 minutes. Padar takes 25 to 45 minutes to the main viewpoint on a path that is moderate, with loose and steep sections. The Komodo walk runs 45 to 120 minutes, and a ranger leads it every time.
The rangers decide who joins a walk, and they decide on the day. A teenager who stays off a trail stays on the boat, and the rest of the party carries on.
The water is the other half. Five snorkel stops give a teenager room to swim hard: Manjarite, Pink Beach, Manta Point, Sebayur and Kanawa. Manta Point has a strong current, so a teenager who swims well still follows the crew.
Who sleeps where when the teens want a cabin
Take a family of five: two parents, an eight-year-old and two teenagers. On Sea Familia 1 the parents and the youngest child take Manta Cabin I, which sleeps 2 to 3 with its extra bed. Each teenager takes a cabin of their own, Manta II and Manta III. Three cabins are used. The price is the same as for five sharing.
On Sea Familia 2 the Family cabin has a queen bed and a bunk for 2 to 4, and the three Deluxe cabins each have two single beds. Two siblings fit one Deluxe cabin without sharing a bed. Every cabin on both boats has air conditioning and a private bathroom.

Three days with something to climb and something to swim (sample)
This sample is built from park timings and the listed Sea Familia 1 route. The captain sets the order on the day.
Day 1. Kelor's hill, a swim and snorkel at Manjarite, and the bats at Kalong from the deck.
Day 2. Padar at first light, breakfast aboard, then Pink Beach, the Komodo ranger walk, and the drift at Manta Point. That is two walks and two snorkels in one day.
Day 3. Kanawa for a last snorkel, then Labuan Bajo. Sea Familia 2 stops are agreed with you in writing before you pay.
Skipper's tip Start the Padar climb as early as the rangers allow. The path is loose and steep, the sun is lower at the start, and sturdy shoes matter more than fitness.
Phones, charging and the quiet hours
Plan on patchy signal in the park. Telkomsel has the widest coverage near Labuan Bajo and offshore, and it is still weak between the islands. Neither boat promises internet access or charging points, so bring a power bank and download what you need before you board. The signal guide has the detail.
Both boats list karaoke and music. The boat is yours alone on a private charter, so the volume and the bedtime are a family decision. Teenagers who need a screen break from the group can have one on deck, with the phones in a bag and the sea to look at.
Price for a parent and two teenagers
A parent and two teenagers are three guests. Sea Familia 1 costs IDR 32,370,000 (≈ USD 1,986) per person at three and IDR 19,420,000 (≈ USD 1,191) at five, for 3 days and 2 nights, whole boat, at 2026 rates. Sea Familia 2 costs IDR 38,130,000 (≈ USD 2,339) at three and IDR 22,880,000 (≈ USD 1,404) at five.
Children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian; from 3 the full fare applies. A private charter is priced per boat by party size, not per person.

Is Padar hard for a fourteen-year-old?
Padar is a moderate climb of 25 to 45 minutes to the main viewpoint, with loose and steep sections. A fourteen-year-old in sturdy shoes can manage a climb of that length, and nobody has to go: it is optional, and staying on the boat is your call. Start early, before the heat.
Can teenagers have their own cabin?
Yes, as long as there are cabins to spare. A family of five uses three of Sea Familia 1's six cabins, with two teenagers in cabins of their own. The price does not change, because the band is 1 to 8 guests. Cabins are confirmed in writing.
Do teenagers pay the adult fare?
On a private charter the price is per boat, not per person, so a teenager adds nothing within the band. On an open trip, children under 3 travel free and from 3 the full fare applies, so a teenager pays the same fare as an adult.
What do teenagers do when it rains?
A rainy hour is spent aboard. On Sea Familia 1 the dining saloon on the upper deck has bench seating and wide windows, and Sea Familia 2 has an air-conditioned indoor lounge. Karaoke and music are listed for both boats. Weather also changes the stops, and the captain decides.
