Sea Familia is a pair of six-cabin phinisi, Sea Familia 1 (up to 12 guests) and Sea Familia 2 (up to 14), hired whole by 2 to 14 people. A small private charter from Labuan Bajo starts at IDR 97,100,000 (≈ USD 5,957) for 3 days and 2 nights on Sea Familia 1.

Six doors, one boat, and who sleeps behind each

Each Sea Familia has six cabins, every one with air conditioning and its own bathroom. That's the whole idea: six doors along one boat, and your own people behind them.

For a family of four on Sea Familia 1, who sleeps where is simple: two cabins on the main deck. The parents take a Manta cabin and the children share Manta Cabin I, which sleeps up to 3 with its extra bed. Two couples on Sea Familia 2 take a Master cabin each, so both get a balcony and an outdoor bathtub.

On Sea Familia 1 there's a round jacuzzi on the foredeck, and everyone eats together in the upper-deck dining saloon. Sea Familia 2 has a jacuzzi too. Its photos show the Master cabin and its bathroom; photos of the Deluxe and Family cabins are on request.

Under the hull: a calm first snorkel, then the mantas

Start in the shallows. At Pink Beach the reef comes right up to the sand. The water is 1 to 8 m deep and the current is mild, so a child's first snorkel can run the full 45 to 90 minutes. Go in the morning, when it's calmer.

Manta Point is another matter. The current is strong, and you drift with it along the reef for 30 to 60 minutes over 3 to 15 m of water. It suits confident swimmers; everyone else should wear a life jacket. Mantas, turtles and dolphins are often seen in season, never promised. The season runs roughly December to February and July to September.

Skipper's tip fit every mask on deck before the first anchorage, hair pushed back and the strap high on the head. Ten minutes on deck saves ten minutes of fiddling in the water.

This is a snorkel boat. Diving can be arranged with a separate dive operator on request. Read the stops one by one under Under the hull, starting with Manta Point.

What the whole boat costs for 4, 8, 12 or 14 people

For 4 guests, the whole of Sea Familia 1 costs IDR 97,100,000 (≈ USD 5,957) for 3 days and 2 nights, or IDR 24,280,000 (≈ USD 1,490) each. Anyone from one to eight pays the same band. Fill the boat to 12 and the same trip costs IDR 102,700,000 (≈ USD 6,301), which comes to IDR 8,560,000 (≈ USD 525) a head.

Only Sea Familia 2 takes fourteen, at IDR 9,810,000 (≈ USD 602) each for 3 days and 2 nights. A private charter is priced per boat by party size, not per person.

Private charters on Sea Familia 1 for other lengths than 3 days and 2 nights are priced on request and confirmed in writing. Rates shown are the 2026 rates.

The next sailings, cabin by cabin

If you'd rather book a cabin than a boat, join an open trip. Seats start at IDR 5,850,000 (≈ USD 359) per person in a Turtle cabin on Sea Familia 1, for 3 days and 2 nights. The next one leaves on Friday, 6 November 2026, and the calendar lists 151 dates across both boats.

On an open trip the tour guide and the documentation are included. You share the boat with other guests, though, so for a quiet family trip of your own you'll want the whole boat.

Dates, fares and the extra bed are on the open trip dates page.

Sea Familia 1 open trips start on Monday and Friday, Sea Familia 2 on Friday. A date taken by a private charter or by maintenance is not listed.

Seven stops you can read about before you book

Sea Familia 1's listed route opens with Kelor and Manjarite, then Kalong at sunset. Day two climbs Padar, snorkels Pink Beach, walks Komodo with a ranger and drifts over Manta Point, and the trip winds down at Sebayur and Kanawa. Six of those stops have a page of their own below, and so does Taka Makassar, the sandbar beside Manta Point.

Stops and their order can change with traffic, weather and tides; the captain decides on the day. The Komodo route on Sea Familia 2 is agreed with you in writing before you pay; the captain sets the order by conditions.

Read the three-day route for the day-by-day order, and the stop pages for depth, current and the best hour at each.

Mantas in two seasons, calm water in the rest

Mantas are often seen at Manta Point from December to February and from July to September, and that's why those months are busy. They're never promised.

Seas are calmest from April to June and in October and November, with clear water for a child's first snorkel. July and August bring wind and the most boats. December to March is the wet season, and December to February brings the roughest water and the best manta chances.

None of the published rates change by month. Your date decides the sea and the crowds, not the price.

The month-by-month page has the detail for every month.

Month by month
MonthSeaVisibilityMantasCrowdsRain
JanuaryroughlowpeaklowwetWet season at its height: heavy showers, the roughest sea of the year and low visibility. Mantas are at their best and the anchorages are quiet, so a family that accepts a lively sea can book it.
FebruaryroughlowpeaklowwetStill wet, with a rough sea and low visibility. The reef is quiet and mantas stay at their peak, which suits a party that wants space more than calm water.
MarchmoderatemediumgoodlowwetThe last wet month. Showers ease, the sea settles to moderate and visibility is medium, with few boats about. Mantas are rated good.
AprilcalmhighfairmediumdryThe dry season opens with a calm sea and some of the best underwater visibility of the year. Crowds are medium, and mantas are fair.
MaycalmhighfairmediumdryDry, calm and clear. Snorkelling and walking are reliable, which makes May an easy month for children and grandparents.
JunecalmhighfairmediumdryDry and clear, with the south-east winds starting to build towards July. Book June if you want calm water and the busy months still ahead.
JulyroughmediumpeakhighdryDry but windier, with a rougher sea and medium visibility. Manta season picks up, and this is a peak month for crowds at the main stops.
AugustroughmediumpeakhighdryThe windiest dry month, with busy anchorages. Mantas are common, but the sea is rough, so pack a windproof layer and plan shorter swims for small children.
SeptembermoderatehighpeakmediumdryWinds ease and visibility improves while mantas are still around. A strong shoulder month for a party that wants both.
OctobercalmhighfairmediumdryCalm, clear and hot, with fewer crowds than July and August. Mantas are fair, and the sea is kind to young snorkellers.
NovembercalmhighfairlowdryThe end of the dry season: calm sea, clear water and quieter stops. Mantas are fair, and November suits a first trip with children.
DecembermoderatemediumpeakmediumwetThe wet season starts and mantas return. Late December is busy with holiday travellers, so ask for dates early and expect a moderate sea.

FAQ

Is a Komodo boat trip worth it for a family of four?

For four, Sea Familia 1 costs IDR 97,100,000 (≈ USD 5,957) for the whole boat over 3 days and 2 nights, IDR 24,280,000 (≈ USD 1,490) each. The listed route has a ranger walk on Komodo, Pink Beach and Manta Point. Guide, park tickets, fuel surcharge and tax are extra. Children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian; from 3 the full fare applies.

What is the difference between the two boats in one sentence?

Sea Familia 1 is 25 m with up to 12 guests and a listed route. Sea Familia 2 is 36.35 m with up to 14 guests, two Master cabins with a balcony and an outdoor bathtub, and a route agreed in writing. Both have a jacuzzi.

Can we have the whole boat for just two couples?

Yes. Four guests pay the first band, which runs to 8 on Sea Familia 1 and to 10 on Sea Familia 2. For 3 days and 2 nights that is IDR 97,100,000 (≈ USD 5,957) on Sea Familia 1 and IDR 114,400,000 (≈ USD 7,018) on Sea Familia 2, whole boat. A private charter is priced per boat by party size, not per person.

Is pickup in Labuan Bajo included?

Yes, and it's free. We collect you from the airport, your hotel or the harbour in Labuan Bajo, and the time and the meeting point are confirmed in writing with your booking. Send your flight number so a late landing moves the plan, not the boat.

Does anything on the price list change between months?

Each boat's 2026 rate holds for every month of the year. Your written quote confirms the date, the fuel surcharge and the tax. Rates shown are the 2026 rates. 2027 open-trip dates are on the calendar; 2027 rates are on request, sent in writing before you pay a deposit.
